NC Ready School Planning & Assessment
The State Board of Education encourages every elementary school in North Carolina to develop a ready school plan for improving the school’s capacity to educate all children, whatever each child’s condition may be. This plan should be based on the NC definition of a ready school and integrated into the broader school improvement plan required of every school under NC state law. Recommended tools are:
- High/Scope
Ready School Assessment (RSA) High/Scope Assessment serves as a planning
tool for Ready School Teams to use to evaluate thier "Readiness Rate".
One unique feature of the High/Scope Ready School Assessment it it's online
profiler. Schools are able to input their scores or answes from the assessement
and analyze their growth potentials or to track changes over the years.
Based on testing in other states, RSA has identified 8 core ready school
dimensions. They are:

- Transitions
- Teacher Supports
- Effective Curricula
- Engaging Environments
- Family, School and Community Partnerships
- Respecting Diversity
- Assessing Progress
- Early Learning is For Everyone
(ELFE) Asset Development Worksheet. (MS Word) This tool was created
by the SPARK grantees in North Carolina. It asks teams to discuss their
current policies and practices relating to 5 indicators. They are:
- Philosophy
- Transition
- Physical Environment
- Curriculum
- Program Structure
